Getting the most out of Zen Cart
If you haven’t got any sort of stats gathering program on your site then you should. Stats are very important, especially when it comes to selling stuff online. I’m a huge fan of Google Analytics. A) It’s very in depth and b) it’s my favorite price; free!
If you don’t have a Google Analytics account sign up now, then down the Simple Google Analytics plug-in and install it on your Zen Cart site. The bit we are interested in is the Site Search feature.
- When in Google Analytics click on edit in the setting column. This is on the first page you see when you login to Google Analytics
- Click on the edit button in the grey bar at the top. It’s to the right of Main Website Profile Information
- In the site search section click Do Track Site Search.
- In the Query Parameter box enter keyword.
- Select no for query parameters
- Then select no for categories.
- Click save changes
Now leave it 24hrs or so then in the reports screen click site search under the content section. Maybe do a search on your site yourself so you have a test to look at.
The information this report gives you is very powerful. Here are just some of the things you can get out of this data:
Plus more. It’s worth checking this report a least once a month and use the data to improve your site. After all it’s free!
The reason I started this blog was because I've spoken to so many people who have setup on line, but are struggling for sales or people who want to get online, but don't know how to. Selling online is very difficult. It's competitive, pretty much no matter what you sell and it can be expensive to setup (and advertise). You can be selling the best products on the web, but it's pointless unless you get the visitors and they can use your site when they finally get there

Hi,
Do you have any instructions on where I include the Google Analytics tracking code please?
Thanks,

You don’t need to include the whole code as Simple Google Analytics puts it in for you.
You just need the UA code which can be found by logging in to Google Analytics, click on the Edit link next to your site. Click Check Status and you’ll see the UA-******* code on there.
Then just log in to your Zen Cart admin, and in the Configuration menu click Google Analytics Configuration select the top option to enter the US code.
Let me know if you need any further help.
